HEC Releases List of 94 Illegal, Fake Universities in Punjab
ISLAMABAD: The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has released a list of 94 illegal and fake universities operating in Punjab, highlighting the growing concern over unregistered higher education institutions in the country.
The list, part of a nationwide update, identifies fake and unregistered campuses across Pakistan. In Punjab, 94 institutions were found to be operating illegally, while Sindh has 35, Azad Kashmir 4, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 12, and two institutions are unregistered under the federal charter.
The HEC has urged students and parents to verify any university or degree program through its official list before enrollment, warning that unregistered or fake institutions are not recognized for government jobs or further studies.
The commission emphasized that students should only seek admission to approved and registered universities. Proper verification will ensure that students are not misled by fake institutions and will protect them from wasting time, effort, and financial resources.
The full list of illegal and unregistered universities and campuses has been made publicly available by the HEC for awareness and compliance purposes.
