QUETTA: The deputy commissioner of Panjgur was shot dead by highwaymen on way to Quetta from Panjgur last night, according to media reports.
The deputy commissioner in a convoy was moving on the Quetta-Karachi Highway towards Quetta when they found the road blocked by over a dozen armed men.
The armed men were checking vehicles after stopping them. However, when the driver of the the deputy commissioner tried to speed off, the armed men open fire on it.
As a result of the firing, the deputy commissioner and four other persons travelling with him were seriously injured. The deputy commissioner later died of the injuries while the four injured were taken to hospital in critical condition.
Security force in the area said that they have launched an operation to trace an arrest the culprits who killed the deputy commissioner and robbed other people on the highway.
However local people said that it was very strange the security forces and police for no way to be seen when the armed persons were blocking the road and robbing people and checking their vehicles.
