Under the new policy, temporary teachers who demonstrate good performance will not have to go through the recruitment process again. Their contracts will instead be extended on the basis of their performance.

College heads have been tasked with evaluating teachers on five different criteria, including students’ academic results, conduct, attendance and discipline.

Officials said teachers showing satisfactory performance would be retained, while those with poor performance could be replaced by new recruits. Performance data will also be compiled at the central level.

New classes in Punjab colleges are scheduled to begin on September 1. Around 8,000 temporary teachers are currently working in colleges across the province.
