The incident occurred in south Delhi, where rescue teams are continuing operations to locate and evacuate people trapped beneath the debris.
Rescuers recovered two more bodies from the rubble, raising the death toll to seven. Authorities said 11 people have so far been safely rescued, while an estimated 30 to 50 students could still be trapped inside the collapsed structure.
Rescue teams are using heavy equipment and other resources to search through the debris and locate survivors. Officials said the operation was still under way.
Initial investigations indicate that water had accumulated in the building’s basement, where repair work was also being carried out. Authorities are examining the ongoing repair work as a possible factor behind the collapse.
However, officials said the exact cause of the incident has yet to be determined and further investigations are under way.
Meanwhile, purported CCTV footage of the collapse has surfaced on social media. The video reportedly shows the building suddenly coming down, while a shopkeeper nearby can be seen running away to save his life.
Authorities are continuing rescue and relief efforts as the search for those still believed to be trapped continues.
