In a statement issued in Islamabad, Fazlur Rehman said Makkah was not merely a city but a centre of religious devotion for hundreds of millions of Muslims around the world.

He said that if an attack occurred, the attackers would face a strong response from the Muslim community, adding that Muslim countries would respond with full force and ensure the protection of Saudi Arabia.

Fazlur Rehman called on Muslim countries, particularly Pakistan, to play a leading role in protecting Saudi Arabia and the holy sites during what he described as a critical period.

He urged Pakistan to immediately announce a clear policy regarding the protection of the Holy Mosques and said the challenges facing Muslim countries had increased the need for a strong and effective Islamic bloc.

The JUI-F chief said millions of party workers shared the grief of the Saudi people over the reported attacks and alleged that the developments had once again exposed what he described as the “double standards” of the United States and Western countries.
