ATTOCK: A lawyer of jailed former Prime Minister and PTI founder Imran Khan was recovered by police in Attock, the police claimed on Sunday.
Intizar Panjotha disappeared on October 8 soon after the PTI held a protest rally to Islamabad. A case was filed in Islamabad High Court seeking his recovery.
On November 1, the Deputy Attorney General while representing the government had assured the court that Panjotha would be recovered within 24 hours.
The Attock police on Sunday claimed that they stopped a suspicious vehicle at a check post for checking in Hassanabdal. However, the suspects inside the car opened fire on the police.
When the police retaliated the suspects very surprisingly fled leaving behind their car on foot. A man who they had kidnapped and were taking to Khyber Pakthunkhwa was recovered from the car.
The man was later identified as Intizar Panjotha, a lawyer of jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan.
Panjotha told police that he had been kidnapped for a ransom of Rs20 million. He said his kidnappers talked in Pashto and he could not understand their language. The kidnappers beat and tortured him.
He also said that he did not know where he had been kept and where he was being taken when police recovered him.
The police said that the recovered man had been shifted to hospital for medical check up.
