ISLAMABAD: The International Cricket Council has formally asked India to file in writing the reasons for its decision not to send its cricket team to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy next year.
Earlier, India had verbally informed the ICC about its decision not to send the cricket team to participate in the Champions Trophy scheduled to be held in February in Pakistan.
Officials said that India would have to come up with solid evidence that could hamper its team’s visit to Pakistan. On the surface of it, there are no such reasons but India has always been trying not to visit Pakistan and also wants other teams to skip the country due to its political rivalry.
If the International Cricket Council thinks that the reasons given by India are not sufficient, it could ask India to participate in the event otherwise another country would be invited to play in Pakistan.
Pakistan has already rejected the idea of holding the Championship under the hybrid model and put in place all the preparations for the event.
If India does not visit Pakistan, the International Cricket Council could face a loss of around 500 millions of dollars in terms of advertisements for the matches between Pakistan and India.
