Judge orders production of Imran in Islamabad High Court

Not allowing anyone including lawyer with jailed PTI founder on any pretext is contempt of court, says judge.

ISLAMABAD: The High Court of Islamabad on Thursday ordered the officials of the Adiala jail to produce PTI founder Imran Khan in the court at 3pm today.

The order was issued by Just Sardar Ishaq while hearing a contempt of court petition filed by the PTI after the government continued a ban on meeting of lawyers and others with the former prime minister in the jail.

The federal government first banned on all visitors to the jail on the pretext of security measures from October 3 to 17 on the eve of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in Islamabad. Later the ban was extended till October 25.

When the contempt petition was taken up by the judge, PTI lawyer Faisal Chaudhry and additional Attorney General Munawer Iqbal appeared in the court.

Justice Ishaq told the government lawyer that how the government can stop the process of justice by issuing a notification. He said that the interior minister should appear and brief the court about the security threats fir which the meeting of lawyers with Imran Khan had been banned.

He said if the government of Punjab has imposed the ban, the notification should be produced in the court. When the officials told the court that there was a ban on meeting with prisoners imposed by the Punjab government, the judge said this was in violation of the orders issued by him.

The court ordered to produce Imran Khan in the court at 3pm so that he can have a meeting with his lawyers.
