ISLAMABAD: A committee formed by the federal government to decide about prices and other matters regarding fertilizer has recommended to import urea for the Kharif season in the country.
The recommendation was made at a meeting of the committee chaired by Minister for Industries and Production Rana Tanveer Hussain in Islamabad today.
The minister told the meeting that 2,000 metric tonnes of urea should be imported immediately to avoid shortage in the wake of rising demand this year.
He also that the import of urea would ensure an increase productivity that was necessary for food security in the country.
The minister assured that the farmers will have uninterrupted supply of urea fertilizer in Kharif season.
The final decision to import urea fertilizer will be taken by the Economic Coordination Committee in the next meeting.
