ISLAMABAD: Police in Islamabad on Friday evening arrested two sisters of PTI founder Imran Khan who tried to hold a protest demonstration at D Chowk despite a ban on public gathering in Islamabad.
Aleema Khan and Uzma Khan led a group of PTI supporters and activists and managed to reach D Chowk in the Red Zone of Islamabad where a heavy contingent of police were already deployed along with prison vans.
The police including women officials took the two sisters of the PTI founder into custody and shifted them to the Secretariat police station.
Elsewhere, PTI supporters were trying to cross blockades to reach D Chowk where the party has announced to hold a protest. However, police and other law enforcement agencies have blocked all major roads to Islamabad.
The police said in a statement that Section 144 was already imposed in the city and anyone trying to violate it would be arrested. Moreover, the Peaceful Assembly and Public Order law has also come into force under which no public gathering or rally is allowed inside the city.
