Imran not to contest for PTI chairman post
After acquittal in cases registered against him, Khan will become chairman of the party again.
ISLAMABAD: Former prime minister Imran Khan has decided not to contest for the post of Chairman of his PTI party in the forthcoming intra-party election and has conveyed his decision to the core committee of the party.
The Election Commission of Pakistan recently directed the PTI to hold the intra-party polls within 20 days otherwise it would lose its election symbol of ‘Bat’.
According to reports, Imran Khan has decided not to take part in the polls and instead would name one of his lawyers to be elected as the chairman of the party.
Legal experts said that the decision of the PTI chief was linked to his conviction by a trial court in the Toshakhana case which has been suspended by Islamabad High Court.
In the intra-party election, the PTI will elect its chairman, vice chairman and organizational set-ups. According to reports, after acquittal in the cases registered against him, Imran Khan will be elected as chairman again.
