ISLAMABAD: Senior lawyer Babar Awan has said if the alleged harassment of PTI founder Imran Khan continued, his sons will certainly return to Pakistan as they have applied for visas.
During a media interaction at the Islamabad High Court, he clarified that Imran Khan’s sons are not involved in politics, and according to the law, they are entitled to at least one conversation with their father each week. However, he said they have not been allowed to communicate with him for months.
Commenting on recent statements by two ministers, who claimed that Imran Khan would not be allowed any visitors until February 8, Awan pointed out that they do not have the legal authority to make such decisions. According to Awan, the ministers’ statements amount to two serious violations: the misuse of authority and a breach of constitutional rights.
He emphasized that only two entities have the authority to regulate and oversee prison visits: the court that sentences the prisoner and the jail administration. He questioned the legitimacy of the ministers’ actions, asking, “On what authority do these ministers deny meetings with the prisoner?”
Awan also highlighted the growing international movement “Release for Imran Khan,” emphasizing that nowhere in the global campaigns is there any mention of preventing political discussions.
