ISLAMABAD: Indian Foreign Minister Jaishankar here on Wednesday called for stricter measures against terrorism and extremism for peace.
He was addressing the 23rd meeting of the SCO Council of Heads of Government being chaired by Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif at Convention Center in Islamabad.
He extended congratulations to Pakistan on assuming the chair of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation and said that India extended full support to Islamabad for the success of the SCO chair.
The Indian foreign minister said that we are meeting here today at a time when the world was facing conflicts, especially two major ones, that would have far reaching impact in different ways in the world.
He said that Covid pandemic put a very negative impact on developing nations and there were the issues of climate change, uncertain situation of supply chain and economic crises hindering the pace of development and progress.
The Indian foreign minister also advocated for self-accountability to ascertain if there were any shortcomings in promoting bilateral relations among countries especially neighbours.
He said that development and progress were linked with durable peace and to attain peace there was a need for stricter actions against extremism and terrorism.
He said if cross-border terrorism and separatist tendencies and other issues continued the dream for world peace would always remain a distant dream
