DUBAI: India defeated New Zealand by 44 runs in the last group stage match of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 on Sunday.
The match was played at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium where the Kiwis won the toss and decided to field against India.
Batting first, India scored 249 runs for the loss of nine wickets in the 50 overs.
India’s top order batsmen struggled against New Zealand and three players of the Indian team returned to the pavilion for just 30 runs. Shubman Gill scored two, Rohit Sharma 15 and Virat Kohli 11 runs.
Shreyas Iyer scored 79 runs, Hardik Pandya 45 runs with the help of two sixes and four fours while Patel scored 42 runs. Fast bowler Matt Henry dismissed five players for 42 runs.
In response to the target of 250 runs, New Zealand was bowled out for 205 in the 46th over. Kane Williamson remained top scorer for New Zealand with 81 runs, hitting seven fours. Mitchell Santner scored 28, Will Young 22 and Daryl Mitchell scored 17 runs. Moreover, Tom Latham scored 14 runs and Glenn Phillips scored 12 runs.
Varun Chakravarthy took five wickets for 42 runs, Kuldeep Yadav took two wickets while Hardik Pandya and Yuzvendra Chahal took one wicket each.
India, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa have already qualified for the semi-finals.
