President Ruto said Tata Chemicals had been extracting natural resources from Lake Magadi for decades but had failed to establish a local manufacturing facility or create sufficient employment opportunities in the surrounding area.

He criticised the company for not contributing enough to local economic development despite its long-standing operations in the region.

Ruto announced that two new companies would be given an opportunity to operate in place of the Indian firm, with the aim of ensuring greater local investment and economic benefits for Kenyan communities.
