SRINAGAR: In Indian-occupied Kashmir, authorities restricted Eid congregational prayers at a major mosque in Srinagar amid heightened security measures.
According to media reports, Indian forces prevented worshippers from offering Eid prayers at Jamia Masjid Srinagar despite prior announcements by the mosque administration that the gathering would take place. The administration had also urged authorities not to impose restrictions.
Witnesses and local sources stated that security personnel were deployed around the mosque, limiting access and stopping people from assembling for prayers.
Similar restrictions have reportedly been imposed in recent weeks during key religious occasions such as Friday prayers and Shab-e-Barat.
This is not the first such instance; authorities also barred Eid prayers at the mosque last year, keeping it closed on the occasion.
