Inflation rate down to 4.9 percent, claims minister

ISLAMABAD: Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb on Wednesday claimed that inflation had decreased to the lowest level after many years because of the significant economic turnaround in the past over a year.

Addressing a conference in Islamabad, the finance minister said that inflation remained the major issue for the public and now inflation rate is down to 4.9 per cent with all economic indicators showing a positive trend, he claimed.

He said the government was focused on taking steps to transfer the benefits to the masses.

The minister highlighted the stability of the currency and increase in foreign exchange reserves. Foreign exchange reserves now cover two and a half months of imports. Additionally, inflation has decreased to 4.9 percent.

The Finance Minister also assured full support for the private sector in the development of the housing sector.

He emphasized that housing is a critical pillar of inclusiveness and stressed the need to simplify procedures for house financing.

It may be mentioned here that Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif recently also said that because of the policies of the government economy had stabilized which was also proved by international rating agencies.

However, he said that repeated protest snd rallies hy PTI to Islamabad were badly affecting economic activities. These political agitations cost the nation billions of rupees as businesses remain shot each time.
