Inflation Rises by 0.12% as Prices of 21 Essential Items Increase

ISLAMABAD: Inflation in the country has recorded an upward trend for the second consecutive week, according to the latest report released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).

On a weekly basis, inflation increased by 0.12 percent, pushing the overall weekly inflation rate to 3.20 percent. The Bureau reported that the annual inflation rate also stands at 3.20 percent.

The report shows that during the past week, prices of 21 essential commodities increased, while 8 items became cheaper and 22 items remained unchanged.

Among the items that saw price hikes, wheat flour rose by 5.07 percent, chicken by 2.86 percent, garlic by 2.44 percent, and packaged tea by 0.73 percent. The price of sugar increased by 0.58 percent, while LPG and rice also became more expensive.

On the other hand, prices of some food items declined. Potatoes became cheaper by 3.73 percent, onions by 2.20 percent, while lentils, tomatoes, and eggs also recorded a decrease in prices during the week.
