Initiatives announced for progress, welfare of minorities

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakthunkhwa government has announced a number of initiatives for the progress and welfare of religious minorities in the province.

These announcements included special training for children of minority communities at the Government’s Service Training Institute with the aim to train them for competitive exams, the provision of solar systems for minorities’ worship places, and scholarships worth Rs100 million for minority students.

The announcements were made by Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur at a meeting with the chairman of the One-Man Commission on Minority Rights Dr. Shoaib Suddle here on Tuesday, said a handout issued from the Chief Minister Secretariat.

Additionally, the chief minister directed all police authorities to establish a special force for the security of minority leaders and to ensure foolproof security for their places of worship.

He also directed the relevant authorities to ensure the implementation of the 5% quota in jobs and the 2% quota reserved for minorities in educational institutions.

The chief minister stated that protecting the rights and ensuring the welfare of minorities living in the province are key priorities of the provincial government’s agenda, and steps are being taken on a priority basis in this regard.
