OTTAWA: The Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) has confirmed that India is involved in foreign interference activities in Canada.

According to a CSIS report, Indian officials and proxy agents in Canada have tried to influence Canadian communities and politicians.

The report says these efforts are aimed at aligning Canada’s position with Indian interests, especially regarding individuals who support the Khalistan movement.

This report was released shortly after a meeting between the Canadian and Indian Prime Ministers at the G7 summit, where both leaders expressed a desire to improve relations.

Relations between Canada and India have been tense since 2023, when Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau accused India of being involved in the killing of Sikh leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar. India denied any involvement.
