Iran hands over bodies of mine laborers to Pakistan

Investigation still underway with no trace to killers of Pakistanis in Saravan, Iran.

QUETTA: The dead bodies of nine laborers shot dead in Saravan area of Siestan province of Iran were on Thursday handed over to Pakistan.

The bodies were transported to the border by Iranian officials and handed over to Pakistani authorities. 

Earlier, relatives of the victims had held a protest demonsteation demanding that the government of Pakistan should expedite work to bring back the dead bodies for burial.

The laborers were shot dead by unknown people at their workplace in Saravan on January 27. The victims belonged to Muzaffargarh and Lodhran towns of Punjab. 

Investigation still underway with no trace to killers of the laborers. 

Both Pakistan and Iran have condemned the killing of the laborers and said enemies of the two countries were behind the incident to create differences between them.

Before the killing of the laborers, Pakistan and Iran in a tit for tat reactions, carried out missile attacks on terror bases in both sides.

However, soon afterward Islamabad and Tehran brought the situation under control. Later, Iranian media minister also visited Pakistan and held talks with authorities.
