Islamabad: Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian was accorded a warm and dignified welcome at the Prime Minister House, where he was received by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, state media reported.
A ceremonial guard of honour was presented by a contingent of Pakistan’s armed forces, while the national anthems of both countries were played.
As a symbolic gesture of goodwill, President Pezeshkian also planted a sapling in the lawns of the Prime Minister House.
In their official talks, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Masoud Pezeshkian were expected to discuss wide-ranging issues of mutual interest, with a focus on strengthening bilateral cooperation in energy, trade, regional connectivity, and border management.
Both leaders underscored the importance of expanding economic ties and reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing people-to-people contacts between the two neighbouring countries.
Both sides will sign several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and cooperation agreements aimed at deepening collaboration in key sectors including energy exchange, trade facilitation, infrastructure development, and cultural cooperation.
To honour the visiting dignitary, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif hosted an official luncheon at the Prime Minister House. Later in the day, President Pezeshkian is scheduled to meet with President Asif Ali Zardari, who is expected to host a formal state banquet in his honour.
President Pezeshkian’s two-day official visit reflects the mutual desire of Pakistan and Iran to elevate their relationship through high-level political engagement and sustained cooperation in areas of strategic importance.
