ISLAMABAD: Hundreds of people participated in rallies held to express solidarity with the people of Palestine and condemn the Zionist state of Israel and its backers in Islamabad on Sunday.
They also called on international community to play its role and stop genocide of Palestinians. The rally was arranged by a religious outfit and participated by thousands of people.
A number of roads remained closed in the capital on Sunday and the protesters tried to enter the red zone housing most of the embassies, but were stopped by heavy contingents of police and Rangers.
The main rally entered the federal capital from Faizabad and was joined by small rallies taken out from different localities in Rawalpindi and Islamabad.
The participants were carrying banners and flags of Palestine and chanting slogans against the western powers and Israel for massacre of the people of Palestine, including children, women and elderly.
They also condemned the double standard of the West regarding human rights and democracy and said innocent Palestinians were being bombed and killed and their right to live in their homeland was being snatched from them.
The protesters also criticized Muslim counties for their inability and callous attitude to raise voice for the Palestinians and get their massacre stopped.
