NEW YORK: While the US and most of the western countries have shamelessly backed Israel in its crimes against humanity, Israel’s ambassador to the United Nations wants the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres resign from his post for raising voice for the Palestinians.
Since the Hamas attack on Israel on Oct 7, the Zionist state has continued air strikes on Gaza and not spared even hospitals, killing about 5,000 people so far.
In reply to calls for halting air strikes on civilian population and a ceasefire, the US president yesterday said there would be no ceasefire untill Hamas released all the hostages it has been holding.
The Israeli ambassador to the UN said Guterres is not the right person for the United Nations chief’s position and he should immediately resign.
On the other hand, demands from human rights organizations for a ceasefire have fell on deaf ears while the besieged people of Gaza ate in urgent need of relief assistance after weeks if bloodbath at the hands of Israel.
Humanitarian workers inside Gaza have said fuel is direly needed to provide healthcare and to power water pumps. The UN agency for Palestinian refugees has said it will be forced to halt its operations tomorrow if does not receive more fuel.
For tens of thousands of families in Gaza, hospitals became a refuge from seemingly endless Israeli shelling. Then came the strike on Ahli Arab Hospital in central Gaza, which the health ministry said killed at least 500 people.
Residents who have been told to flee the north of the Palestinian territory had packed the courtyards and corridors of the territory’s overwhelmed hospitals in the belief they were a safe haven from the Israeli bombardments.
The Hamas government in Gaza termed the attack a “war crime”.
