ISLAMABAD: Italy has officially allocated a job quota for Pakistani citizens, becoming the first European country to do so, in a major boost for overseas employment opportunities for Pakistanis.
According to a spokesperson for Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis, Italy has offered a total quota of 10,500 jobs over the next three years. Under the agreement, 3,500 Pakistani workers will be allowed to work in Italy each year, including 1,500 seasonal and 2,000 non-seasonal positions.
The employment opportunities span multiple sectors, including shipbreaking, agriculture, and healthcare. Skilled and semi-skilled Pakistani workers will be able to apply for positions such as welders, technicians, chefs, waiters, and housekeeping staff, while additional openings are available in nursing, medical technology, farming, and agricultural work.
The ministry also announced that the second meeting of the Pakistan–Italy Joint Working Group will be held in Islamabad in February, where both sides will discuss further strengthening labor cooperation.
Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistanis Chaudhry Salik Hussain described the development as an important milestone for Pakistan, stating that it would open new doors for Pakistani workers in the European labor market.
He added that the government remains committed to providing dignified employment opportunities for Pakistani workers at the global level.
