NASIRABAD: A passenger train, the Jaffar Express, traveling from Quetta to Peshawar, came under a rocket attack near Notal in the Nasirabad district on Tuesday, officials confirmed.
According to police sources, unidentified assailants fired rockets at the train. Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were reported, and the train remained largely undamaged.
Following the incident, security forces launched an immediate retaliatory response, but the attackers managed to escape. A search operation is underway in the surrounding area to locate the suspects.
Police later confirmed that the Jaffar Express safely reached Dera Murad Jamali after the attack.
Meanwhile, as a precautionary measure, the Peshawar-to-Quetta-bound Jaffar Express was halted at Sibi Railway Station due to heightened security concerns.
In a related development, security sources revealed that the suspected mastermind behind the attack, identified as a militant affiliated with the group “Fitna al-Hindustan,” was killed in Afghanistan during a separate operation.
Authorities have increased security patrols and surveillance along the railway routes connecting Quetta, Dera Murad Jamali, and Peshawar to prevent further incidents.
