Jailed PTI founder seeks help from British prime minister
Says mandate of his party stolen and he should be helped to restore democracy in Pakistan.
RAWALPINDI: PTI founder Imran Khan has sought help from British Prime Minister Keir Starmer from the Adiala jail in Rawalpindi.
In an interview to a TV channel, Imran Khan said that the British Prime Minister should help him cope with the threat to democratic system in Pakistan. He congratulated Mr Starmer on his victory in the recent elections in the UK.
He gave the interview to the TV channel through his lawyers. Imran Khan said that democracy in Pakistan was at great danger. Addressing the British Prime Minister, he said can you imagine what would have been the reaction if elected members of the Labour Party in the UK were kidnapped at the dead of night.
Imran Khan said that for the last one year he had been kept in a 7×8 feet cell in the jail in which people involved in terrorism or those sentenced to capital punishment are usually kept.
The PTI founder said that the British Prime Minister and his cabinet members had won the elections conducted in a fair and transparent manner without any interference from any quarter.
He again asked the British Prime Minister and his cabinet members what would have been their reaction and what would have been the future of democracy in their country if the members of the majority party were abducted at the middle of the night and forced to change their loyalty with the party.
Imran Khan said that in Pakistan his party’s mandate was stolen and a party with just 18 seats was imposed on the nation through rigging.
He said that he was ready to fight for the survival of democracy and the British Prime Minister and his cabinet members should extend their help to his party in its efforts for the restoration of democracy in Pakistan.
