ISLAMABAD: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) has stepped up efforts to mediate the ongoing crisis in Azad Kashmir by forming a special committee tasked with facilitating dialogue and proposing solutions.

The decision was taken at a high-level meeting chaired by JI chief Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman, where participants welcomed an offer by the Joint Action Committee requesting the party to play a mediatory role.

The meeting decided that Hafiz Naeem would meet the President, the Prime Minister and other national leaders to discuss the situation in Azad Kashmir and present practical proposals aimed at resolving the crisis.

A special committee has also been constituted to coordinate with the Joint Action Committee, gather recommendations and submit them to the party leadership for further action.

Addressing the meeting, Hafiz Naeem said the situation in Azad Kashmir could not be left to deteriorate further, adding that Jamaat-e-Islami would play its full role in addressing the difficulties faced by the people.

He reiterated that the people of Kashmir remained firmly committed to Pakistan and stressed the need for urgent measures to ease public hardships.

The meeting also expressed concern over the three-week-long lockdown, saying residents were being deprived of basic necessities. It urged the federal government to ensure the immediate supply of essential commodities and medicines to the region.
