ISLAMABAD: The PTI central leadership and social media team appeared before a joint investigation team (JIT) formed by the federal government. The JIT raised tough questions with the PTI leaders about its social media campaign against state institutions.
According to sources, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, Rauf Hassan and Shah Farman appeared before the JIT. The central leadership of PTI has decided to consult the jailed PTI founder Imran Khan on the posts from his X account.
It may be recalled that the federal government’s JIT had summoned 15 PTI members, including its chairman, for propaganda on social media.
The JIT was formed under Section 30 of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act 2016, with the aim of recommending legal action against those involved.
Sources said PTI leaders were shown everything related to posts on social media and Barrister Gauhar Ali Khan and others were also asked questions about party’s financing.
On behalf of Alia Hamza and Kanwal Shozeb, their lawyer Dr. Ali Imran appeared in the JIT, but the JIT directed the two women leaders to appear in any case on the next hearing.
The JIT had also summoned Sheikh Waqas Akram, Salman Akram Raja, Khalid Khurshid Khan and Awn Abbas Bappi.
On the other hand, PTI Chairman Barrister Gauhar Ali Khan said the JIT questioned them for one and a half hours, adding the JIT’s questions will be discussed on the party’s platform. He said on questions related to social media, the PTI founder will also be discussed.
He said, “We respect all institutions, and do not want to have differences with any institution.”
