Addressing a sit-in in Gujranwala, JI chief Hafiz Naeemur Rehman said millions of people would march towards the capital if the government failed to withdraw the petroleum levy.

He said the government could deploy as many containers as it wanted, but protesters would remove the barriers and reach Islamabad.

Hafiz Naeem questioned the government's justification that rising global oil prices were responsible for higher fuel prices, saying the public could understand international market pressures but wanted an explanation for the petroleum levy and heavy taxes.

He also questioned why locally produced oil was being priced at the same level as imported oil.

The JI chief also criticised the treatment of workers at sugar mills, alleging that labourers working at mills owned by Nawaz Sharif were not receiving their rights and that many workers remained unregistered.

He further accused the Punjab government of failing to protect women, claiming that 6,500 cases of violence against women had been reported in the province.

Hafiz Naeem also criticised Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz over her alleged use of public funds during her stay in London and challenged her to disclose the expenses of the trip.

He alleged that Maryam Nawaz, Nawaz Sharif and their families were exploiting the poor and claimed that their tax returns and wealth declarations showed lower incomes than those of ordinary businesspeople.
