SRINAGAR: A young Kashmiri man, Zubair Ahmad Bhat, has reportedly died under suspicious circumstances while in police custody.
According to the Kashmir Media Service, Zubair was found unconscious in a park and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. Medical reports suggest that he died due to a severe head injury.
Mehbooba Mufti’s daughter and PDP leader, Iltija Mufti, has claimed that Zubair’s death was not accidental but a result of police brutality. She alleged that Zubair was in the custody of Delhi police at the time of his death.
According to the victim’s family, Zubair was taken from his home by Delhi police officers and was later subjected to brutal torture, including being beaten with iron rods. These allegations raise serious concerns about custodial violence and demand an immediate and impartial investigation.
Human rights groups and local political leaders have demanded justice and called for accountability from the authorities involved.
