Khattak says he is candidate for KP chief minister

Says a person with sincerity to nation should become the prime minister of the country.

PESHAWAR: Former PTI provincial president Pervez Khattak on Sunday said he is not an aspirant for the post of the prime minister but a candidate for the chief ministership of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Speaking at an event held to welcome new entrants to his newly-formed PTI Parliamentarians (PTI-P), he said there was a likelihood of an alliance between the PML-N and the JUI-F in the province. He said talks were underway for seat adjustment between the PTI-P and different political parties in a number of districts.

Khattak said that it was imperative that a person with sincerity to the nation should become the prime minister as the country was facing a critical financial situation. He said past rulers took loans from the IMF, which was not in the interest of the country.

After being sacked by the PTI four months ago, Khattak launched the new political party.  He was expelled from PTI  on the charge of issuing statements against party chief Imran Khan.

Pervez Khattak remained the chief minister of KP when the province was ruled by the PTI from 2013 to 2018. After the 2018 elections, he was made the defence minister in the cabinet of then prime minister Imran Khan.
