King Charles calls Shehbaz, invites him to CommonWealth moot

ISLAMABAD: Britain’s King Charles III on Wednesday called Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and invited him to attend the Commonwealth conference in October.

The Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting is scheduled to be held in Samoa next month. According to the state media, King Charles had a telephonic conversation with Prime Minister Sharif and besides the invitation also discussed relations between the two countries.

According to PTV, the Prime Minister inquired about the health of the king. He thankedĀ  the king for making a telephone call and inviting him to the Commonwealth meeting.

It may be noted here that it would be the first meeting of the Commonwealth which King Charles III will chair for the first time since becoming head of the organisation of the former colonial states.

Recalling the fond memories of the king’s last visit to Pakistan, when he was the Prince of Wales, the Prime Minister hoped that the King and Her Majesty The Queen would visit Pakistan again soon.

Among other agenda items, the Commonwealth meeting would discuss emerging issues being faced by the member countries especially those related to climate change.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is expected to lead a delegation from Pakistan to attend the conference.
