ISLAMABAD: An FIR has been registered in Islamabad against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA).

According to reports, the case was filed for allegedly making statements against state institutions that were deemed harmful to national security.

The complaint was lodged at the Cybercrime Reporting Centre in Islamabad by a sub-inspector of the National Cybercrime Investigation Agency (NCCIA).

The FIR states that videos circulating on social media contained remarks intended to damage the reputation of state and national security institutions.

It further alleges that Chief Minister Afridi made a false and provocative media statement outside Adiala Jail, which was later shared through the official Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) social media pages.

The authorities claim that the online dissemination of the video amplified the negative narrative against key national institutions.
