RAWALPINDI: Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Muhammad Sohail Khan Afridi expressed deep concern over the health of PTI founder Imran Khan and questioned how his health deteriorated to such an extent that he had to be secretly shifted to a hospital in Islamabad.
He said the most alarming aspect is that even Imran Khan’s personal physician was not taken into confidence, which neither he nor the entire nation can remain silent about.
He was talking to the media outside Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi on Thursday. Members of the provincial cabinet and senior leaders of the PTI were also present on the occasion.
The chief minister expressed serious concern over Imran Khan’s health and overall condition, stating that Imran Khan was secretly transferred to a hospital on Saturday and his family was kept completely unaware. He questioned why the family was not informed if Imran Khan’s condition was so serious that required immediate medical attention.
He said this situation is unacceptable under any circumstances. Sohail Afridi further questioned the motives behind concealing the facts since Saturday and made it clear that the entire nation will not tolerate this approach and there will be a strong reaction. He demanded that an immediate meeting with Imran Khan be allowed so that the real situation can be brought before the nation.
He said the government’s narrative is unreliable, misleading and lacks credibility. He said Imran Khan has previously been subjected to an assassination attempt, and under such circumstances, taking him out of jail suddenly and secretly without informing anyone is an extremely serious matter. He clarified that his concerns are entirely genuine. The Chief Minister expressed strong concern and said that even Imran Khan’s personal physician was kept uninformed about his health, which is tantamount to medical terrorism. He demanded that Imran Khan’s family and personal physicians be allowed to meet him immediately and that treatment be conducted by his own doctors to prevent the situation from worsening. Otherwise, the rulers will bear full responsibility.
In response to media questions, the Chief Minister said that his top priority at this moment is Imran Khan’s health. He urged media to fulfill their professional responsibility and raise their voice for Imran Khan. He said if voices can be raised over fake news about falling platelets, why is there silence on Imran Khan’s real and serious situation.
The chief minister stated that he would remain outside Adiala Jail tonight as well. He said a large number of parliamentarians have already arrived, and other party leaders are continuously reaching Adiala Jail. He said this is a matter of their leader’s life and they will not allow this situation to be normalized under any circumstances.
Afridi said the entire nation should remain alert, and that he will stay there tonight and wait until Imran Khan’s family and personal physicians are allowed to meet him. He warned that if an attempt is made to unnecessarily worsen the situation, the government will bear full responsibility, especially those elements who are obstructing the meeting. The Chief Minister strongly demanded that Imran Khan’s sisters and personal physicians be allowed to meet him immediately to avoid any unpleasant situation.
He said he wants matters to be resolved amicably and no tension should arise, however, if the meeting is obstructed, the government will be fully responsible for the consequences.
