PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakthunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur on Thursday said that the two tribes in Kurram have agreed on a 10-day ceasefire.
As though two countries were at war, the chief minister welcomed the move by the rival sides of the district though his government has failed to check killings of people on both sides. He said both the sides have agreed to give mediators a chance to restore peace.
A few days ago, armed persons ambushed convoys of passenger vehicles on the main highway between Kurram and Peshawar and killed over 50 people. More than 100 people have lost their lives in the clashes within the last a month or so.
The chief minister said that the government was assessing the damages in the area and working on a plan to end the clashes and restore peace among the people.
It may be mentioned here that the two tribes of Kurram have a long history of sectarian enmity and have been killing each other. Land disputes between the two tribes add to the tension between them.
