Lahore Tops Global Air Pollution Index as Smog Crisis Deepens

LAHORE: Lahore has once again been ranked the most polluted city in the world, with air quality levels reaching dangerously high levels despite government pledges to curb pollution.

According to a report by Reuters, the city’s Air Quality Index (AQI) climbed to 388 on Sunday — a level classified as “hazardous” and posing serious health risks to the public. The spike comes even as authorities reiterate warnings and announce strict action against those responsible for spreading pollution.

Environmental experts say that a combination of industrial emissions, heavy traffic, and crop burning has contributed to the toxic smog blanketing the city. They warn that without effective enforcement and sustainable policies, Lahore’s air quality will continue to deteriorate, especially as the winter season approaches.

Residents have been urged to stay indoors, avoid unnecessary outdoor activity, and use protective masks to minimize health risks.
