WASHINGTON: A classified U.S. intelligence report has concluded that even large-scale military attacks would not be sufficient to remove Iran’s current government.
According to the Washington Post, the report warns that Iran’s political and military leadership would remain intact even in the event of major strikes.
The report was prepared by senior analysts of the National Intelligence Council, based on information from 18 U.S. intelligence agencies. It was completed a week before recent Israeli and American operations against Iran.
The analysis indicates that the assassination of Ayatollah Khamenei would not destabilize Iran’s leadership, as religious and military leaders have predefined protocols for responding.
Iran’s opposition forces are unlikely to gain control of the country.
U.S. ground incursions or fomenting uprisings in Kurdish regions were not considered viable alternatives.
Experts cited in the report highlight that no internal fissures or public uprisings have emerged in Iran that could threaten the regime.
Senior researchers at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy and Brookings Institution emphasize that Iran’s leadership retains full control over the state and military, and resisting U.S. pressure aligns with their ideological principles.
The report comes amid threats from U.S. President Donald Trump and his administration to launch an extended military campaign against Iran.
