Legal action ordered against Afghans with fake CNICs

Over 12,000 Afghan nationals were recently caught in Saudi Arabia with fake Pakistani passports and CNICs.

ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Interior has ordered initiation of legal action against thousands of Afghan nationals who were recently caught with fake passports and CNICs in Saudi Arabia.

However, the government is yet to take any action against officials concerned in NADRA and the passport office who issued fake CNICs and passports to the Afghans.

According to reports, on the direction of the Interior Ministry, the Federal Investigation Agency has decided to issue notices to 12,500 Afghan nationals caught in Saudi Arabia with the fake Pakistani documents.

The Afghans caught in Saudi Arabia were likely to be sent to jail and then deported.

Officials said that most of the fake identity cards were issued to the Afghans from NADRA Islamabad and Quetta offices.

NADRA has ordered its centers in all the four provinces to submit reports about issuance of any fake identity cards to the Afghans. They were also asked to make the system secure to avoid such breach of security in the future.

It may be noted that the government has given the deadline of November 1 for all illegal aliens to leave Pakistan after which they would be deported.

There are an estimated 1.5 million Afghans living in Pakistan without any documents. It is also suspected that thousands of Afghans with fake CNICs are already living in the country.
