RAWALPINDI: A Lieutenant Colonel of the Pakistan Army and a soldier were martyred in a terrorist attack on a security forces convoy in Bannu.
Five militants were also killed in a retaliatory response by the forces.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the attack occurred during an intelligence-based operation in Bannu. Terrorists belonging to the Indian proxy group “Fitna al-Khawarij” attempted to target the security forces’ convoy using an explosives-laden suicide vehicle.
ISPR stated that forward troops intercepted the suicide bomber in time, foiling the terrorists’ major destructive plan. However, during an intense exchange of fire, the attackers rammed the explosive-filled vehicle into a security forces vehicle.
As a result of the blast and heavy gunfire, Lieutenant Colonel Shahzada Gul Faraz and Sepoy Karamat Shah fought bravely and embraced martyrdom in the line of duty.
The military spokesperson further revealed that the militants are using Afghan soil to carry out operations even during the holy month of Ramadan, and alleged that the Afghan Taliban government has failed to prevent such elements from operating.
