Malawian Vice President, nine others die in plane crash

Claus Chilima, 51, was aboard a Malawi Defense Force aircraft that left the capital Lilongwe at on Monday.

JOHANNESBURG (Reuters): Malawi’s President Lazarus Chakwera said on Tuesday told his nation that everyone on board the airplane carrying Malawi Vice President Saulos Klaus Chilima that went missing on Monday had been killed.

The plane carrying the vice president and nine others went missing on Monday. Its wreckage was found in a forested area in the north of the country today.

Chilima, 51, was aboard a Malawi Defense Force aircraft that left the capital Lilongwe at 09:17am on Monday.

The aircraft had been scheduled to land at Mzuzu International Airport at 10:02am, according to a statement.
