Speaking to US media ahead of Netanyahu’s appearance at the United Nations General Assembly, Mamdani criticised the Israeli prime minister over Israel’s military campaign in Gaza.

Netanyahu responded by accusing Mamdani of supporting Hamas and encouraging protests against New York’s Jewish community.

The Israeli prime minister said he would present what he described as the “truth” about Israeli soldiers at the United Nations and would also address his position on Mamdani.

Netanyahu further told the New York mayor that he should be ashamed over what he characterised as support for Hamas and unrest targeting Jews in New York.

It may be mentioned here that before being elected as the New York City Mayor and even after taking charge, Mamdani had said that he would order the arrest of the Israeli prime minister by acting upon the verdict of the International Criminal Court.
