KAGHAN VALLEY: A tragic incident occurred in the scenic Kaghan Valley when a portion of a glacier collapsed near Sohni Waterfall in Naran, resulting in the deaths of three tourists who were taking photographs beneath it.
According to sources, the victims were a father and son along with another young man, all hailing from the Mughalpura area of Lahore. The deceased have been identified as 35-year-old Tahir, his 13-year-old son Abu Bakar, and 22-year-old Tayyab.
Eyewitnesses reported that the group was capturing selfies and pictures close to the glacier when a chunk broke off and fell on them, trapping them underneath. Rescue efforts were launched immediately, but all three were found dead under the debris.
In response to the incident, Provincial Tourism Adviser Zahid Chanzeb expressed deep sorrow and condolences to the bereaved families.
He urged tourists to avoid unstable or risky areas and refrain from taking photos in dangerous spots. “There is a need to raise awareness about safety precautions at tourist destinations,” he stated.
Chanzeb has also directed authorities to enhance safety measures at all major tourist sites to prevent such incidents in the future.
