Mental Health Day Observed At UoP With Focus On Youth
PESHAWAR: The Department of Social Welfare, Merged Districts, in collaboration with the University of Agriculture Peshawar’s ORIC and UNICEF, observed World Mental Health Day 2025 under the theme “Together for Mental Health Support, Strength, and Solidarity as Youth, Children, and Adolescents.”
The event highlighted the need to strengthen mental health support systems for young people, particularly those affected by crises such as conflicts and natural disasters. Students, faculty members, government officials, and child protection experts attended.
Vice Chancellor Jehan Bakht stressed that mental well-being is vital for education and overall health. Sumbal Gillani, UNICEF Child Protection Officer, reaffirmed UNICEF’s commitment to promoting mental health and psychosocial support, saying that “child protection and mental health are inseparable.”
Keynote speakers and panelists, including Ubaid ur Rahman, Bashir, and Bilal from the University of Peshawar, discussed promoting mental health and community resilience.
A theatre performance portrayed emotional struggles during crises, followed by a Youth Sharing Session, where participants shared stories of recovery and hope.
In closing, Sohail Ahmad, UNICEF Child Protection Specialist, called for inclusive mental health services and announced new MoUs between UNICEF and the University of Peshawar to enhance child protection and psychosocial well-being.
The event concluded with a collective pledge to promote mental health awareness.
