TEXAS: A small aircraft belonging to the Mexican Navy crashed along the coast of the US state of Texas, killing at least five people, including a child, US media reported.
According to officials, the aircraft went down in Galveston Bay while en route to Houston Airport, carrying a patient and several other passengers. The crash occurred late Monday night.
A spokesperson for the US Coast Guard said that eight people were on board at the time of the accident. One passenger remains missing, and search and rescue operations are ongoing. Initial reports suggested that four people had been rescued alive; however, authorities later clarified that two of those rescued succumbed to their injuries, bringing the death toll to five.
In a statement, the Mexican Navy confirmed that the aircraft was carrying four navy personnel and four civilians. The cause of the crash has not yet been determined, and an investigation is underway.
