ISLAMABAD: Security forces have killed a key militant commander along with four associates during an intelligence-based operation in North Waziristan, officials said.

According to the officials, the operation was carried out in the Spenwam area, where forces targeted hideouts linked to militants belonging to the banned outfit Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). The slain commander, identified as Umar alias Jan Mir alias Tor Saqib, was reportedly a high-value target with a bounty of Rs3 million on his head.

The officials said the militant was involved in planning and executing multiple attacks against security personnel and civilians, making him one of the most wanted figures in the region.

Sources revealed that the militants had established underground bunkers around a local mosque and had laid explosive devices in the area. Despite these challenges, security forces conducted the operation with precision, successfully neutralizing the militants.

Security analysts described the killing of the commander as a significant blow to militant networks, noting that it would contribute to improving the security situation in the area.
