PESHAWAR: In a significant counter-terrorism operation, security forces have killed a key militant commander identified as Maulvi Nazir, affiliated with the outlawed Khawarij terrorist group, in the mountainous border region between Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
According to police sources, the operation was launched after intelligence reports indicated the presence of militants in the remote hilly terrain along the interprovincial boundary. A joint team comprising police and intelligence agencies carried out the mission with the support of local residents.
Maulvi Nazir, believed to be a senior field commander, was neutralized during the operation. Authorities credit local cooperation as a crucial element in the success of the mission.
Security forces have intensified operations in the region in recent months, aiming to dismantle terrorist networks and prevent cross-border militant movement.
Further investigations are underway, and a search operation continues to clear the area of any remaining threats.
