Minister regrets propaganda to misguide overseas Pakistanis

Azam Tarar says Pakistan should be supreme over all other affiliations abroad.

WASHINGTON: Federal Minister for Law and Justice Azam Nazir Tarar said overseas Pakistanis are an asset of the nation, Pakistan is the Identity of all of us, adding while abroad national interest should be held supreme against political and other affiliation.

Addressing a gathering of Pakistani community leaders and political figures belonging different parties, the minister regretted that some elements with vested interests were promoting negative propaganda among the overseas Pakistanis against their own country.

It is also unfortunate that on the one hand overseas Pakistanis were being incited to approach foreign governments and lawmakers and on the other they were being fed rumours and disinformation that steps were being taken by embassies and missions of Pakistan regarding their extradition on the charges of working against the interest of the state.

The minister rubished all such rumours and said neither any action was on the cards against any overseas Pakistanis nor any list of such individuals was being taken for action against them.

Mr Tarar said the history of the two main political parties of Pakistan was full of struggles and sacrifices for promotion of democracy in the country. However, we have to draw a clear line between democratic struggle and arson and anti-Pakidtan activities.

He said no nation in the world could tolerate attacks on its vital state institutions and martyrs. In such a case, the law takes its own course and punish the culprits in order to check such incidents in the future.

The minister said a propaganda had also been launched abroad by the vested interest groups as regard to the legal action being taken against all those involved in the May 9 arson attacks on military and other installations.

In fact, action is being taken against the culprits under the existing laws of the land.

On the suggestion by the participants of the gathering to increase the number of PIA flights to Europe and America, Mr Tarar said during the tenure of the PTI the image of the national flag carrier was damaged and it would take time to restore it.

He said legislation was being made for the complete overhaul of the aviation industry which would completed and announced soon.

Meanwhile, the minister held talks with a number of US Congress members on bilateral relations and other matters.

Talking about various other suggestions by overseas members and ensuring their participation in the political process, the minister said that it is the right of overseas Pakistanis to participate in the political process.

He said that various proposals are under consideration regarding giving the right to vote to overseas Pakistanis and their representation, but consensus of all political forces in this regard will help in adopting a better strategy.
