The name of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has surfaced in the files of convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, causing an uproar in India.

According to Indian media reports, the opposition party, Congress, has strongly criticized Modi, calling his alleged connection with the notorious Epstein “extremely shameful” for India.

Congress has raised questions about the nature of Modi’s relationship with Epstein, pointing to an email from Epstein that reportedly mentioned the Indian Prime Minister seeking advice from him before visiting Israel.

Epstein’s email allegedly detailed that Modi consulted with him before his trip to Israel in July 2017, and claimed that during his visit, Modi had “danced and sang” in favor of U.S. President Donald Trump’s interests. This email, which was sent a few days after Modi’s visit to Israel, has raised serious concerns within the opposition.

Congress has further pointed out that Modi’s visit to Israel took place between July 4 and 6, 2017, and the email from Epstein was written just days after the trip. Additionally, Modi had met with Donald Trump in the U.S. in June 2017, suggesting a longstanding relationship between the Prime Minister and Epstein.

The opposition has demanded that Modi be held accountable for this alleged connection, questioning why he sought Epstein’s advice and what the “dance and song” in Israel meant. They are also asking why Epstein considered Modi’s visit to Israel a success, and what implications this had for Trump’s interests.

In response, India’s Ministry of External Affairs rejected the claims, dismissing the email references as “the ramblings of a convicted criminal.” Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated that while Modi’s official visit to Israel in July 2017 was indeed factual, the rest of the email’s contents were merely baseless thoughts of a convicted felon.
