Moroccan Athlete Wins International Marathon in Sukkur

SUKKUR: The second Lok Sahaita International Marathon was won by Morocco’s El Yousof Abdelmajid, who completed the 42.195-kilometer race in a remarkable 2 hours, 22 minutes, and 35 seconds.

The marathon, which started at the IBA Public School, saw participation from 28 athletes from 10 countries, including Italy, Canada, Japan, Morocco and the UK, along with 3,000 local athletes.

Abdelmajid’s victory came after a fiercely contested race. Ethiopian athlete Mitero Nebro secured second place, completing the marathon in 2 hours, 28 minutes, and 48 seconds, while Kenya’s Jackson Mainya took third, finishing in 2 hours, 31 minutes, and 6 seconds.

In the women’s category, Kenya’s Muni Mutoku claimed first place in the 10-kilometer race with a time of 40 minutes and 25 seconds. Japan’s Yuko Lagucci came in second at 40 minutes and 49 seconds, while Lahore’s Mahnoor Afzal finished third, covering the 10 kilometers in 43 minutes.

The marathon’s winner, Abdelmajid, will receive a cash prize of 1.5 million rupees, and the top 20 athletes will also be awarded cash prizes for their impressive performances.
